Dear SMT users,

It is my pleasure to inform you that we have finished another version of Server Monitoring Tool. The current version number is 00.5.60 and we are just in a process of updating clients’ installations, all clients will be informed about the actual update on one of the future meetings by my colleagues.

Here is a brief summary of all the changes included.

  • We upgraded the frontend infrastructure, which means we are running on PHP 7 with a newer framework. Thanks to that we are able to use the latest database driver. Based on these changes we expect some improvements in performance.
  • New reports
    • Waits detail – non-aggregated charts for resource and signal waits.
    • DB size statistics - we are now collecting data about database files and related volumes and providing you an overview of the data through this report
  • New alerts
    • Tempdb growth - a new check with email us alerts was created to watch the tempdb files in regards with related volume point.
    • Long running blocking transactions - transactions that are running longer than configured threshold and are blocking resource for other transactions will be reported to us. The thresholds for the blocking transactions are able to be set for each SMT instance individually.
    • Collector watcher - from our SMTBOX machine we check if SMT is still connecting data, and if not, then the toll will try to inform us.
  • Dashboard shows now generic information about the server and also current figures about volume points.
  • Query summary report allows now to change the values between totals and averages.
  • DB mail instance profile is now loaded dynamically based on existing profiles at the instance.
  • For encrypted procedures we added information about start and end position of the statement in the batch to give you an idea from which part of the encrypted proc the query comes from.
  • In block report we decode the resource ID and provide the name of the object.
  • For our web application we added a support for a SSL certificate.
  • Usual enhancements and improvements
    • Report descriptions, chart and table tooltips.
    • Some filters were made more intuitive
    • Few performance improvements
    • Status bar with information about shown data was reformatted to make it better to read.
  • We have to admit that few minor bugs were also identified, but now they are fixed.

In case you have any questions or issues please let us know, we will be more than happy to answer them.

I am already looking forward to the new functionalities and enhancements in the next release, which scope we are just finalising.

Kind Regards,

Jiri Dolezalek
